Victorian Alps [Dateline: 23 April - 2 May 2006]
We finally left Venus Bay after
Easter, and headed for 'the High Country',
through which we go to the east coast where we begin our travel north .
The high country is actually not
very high, Australias highest mountain is Mt Kosciuszko - 2229m, but we have
travelled through some stunning autumnal
countryside and very cute alpine villages, on the journey which took us from
Bairnsdale, on the Great Alpine Road via Omeo, Anglers Rest and Mitta Mitta, to
Corryong and from there through the Kosciuszko national park, through Threadbo
(a ski resort!) and stopping at Geehi and Bombala!

Hege skipping on the Mitta Mitta river!

View from lookout, mountainrange approx 2000m
20 mtrs from our camp at Geehi campsite, a bunch of skippys, so cute!
Just after Threadbo, an alpine village, emus on the side of the road!
Apparently the only hotel/pub in Aus still using generator for power! At a tiny campsite called Anglers Rest, on The Omeo highway, where we stayed for 2 days. Beautiful and sunny and 20 degrees + during the day, 2-3 below at night! (The dog is called Uki!)
We left Anglers Rest and drove through more beautiful countryside, towards Corryong, but stopped for the night near this river
1,5 million hectars were burnt, it took 50 days to get control of the fire. We were seeing burnt trunks but lots of beautiful bright green re-growth everywhere.
The bushfire in the background is what makes the light so erie, it was a controlled fire, so no danger!
