North Queensland region,
Bowen to Cairns [Dateline 23
June - 10 July 2006]
After Carnarvon
Gorge we decided we needed some warmer weather, and headed for the coast. After
a brief stop in Emerald to pick up some post our first 'coastal stop' was
Mackay, where we stayed on the beach in Bucasia, fed Lorikeets and Possums and
enjoyed the warm weather!
A few days later we drove north to Bowen, and on to
Townsville. We are now definitely in the tropics, the Great Barrier Reef 'on our
doorstep', warm sunny days and balmy nights. Visited the aquarium in Townsville,
then we drove north towards Cairns. We celebrated Chris' birthday by camping for
2 days by a beautiful little waterhole aptly called Paradise, before stopping in
Cairns for a short week.

On arrival in Townsville, chillin' in the shade.....
Would you believe us if we said we met a friendly shark whilst swimming?
The waterhole at Big Crystal Creek, where we camped to celebrate Chris' birthday.
Hege is saying hello to turtles and fish, they liked bread...
Birthday boy going for a swim...
Not a bad place to celabrate a birthday?
We have taken our environmental responsibilities a little more seriously, so are not feeding the wildlife chips anymore. (Jill...!) but butcherbirds do enjoy pasta with a roasted garlic and sundried tomato sauce!
Ok then, it is one of the residents of the aquarium....
An absolutely serene place, very peaceful, we will be going back! Enjoyed a very relaxing birthday with sensational weather and excpetional swimming!
and the judge gave a 9 out of 10 for form........
Shortly after taking this photo I had a birthday beer in hand!
