North Queensland region, Bowen to Cairns  [Dateline 23 June - 10 July 2006]

After Carnarvon Gorge we decided we needed some warmer weather, and headed for the coast. After a brief stop in Emerald to pick up some post our first 'coastal stop' was Mackay, where we stayed on the beach in Bucasia, fed Lorikeets and Possums and enjoyed the warm weather!

A few days later we drove north to Bowen, and on to Townsville. We are now definitely in the tropics, the Great Barrier Reef 'on our doorstep', warm sunny days and balmy nights. Visited the aquarium in Townsville, then we drove north towards Cairns. We celebrated Chris' birthday by camping for 2 days by a beautiful little waterhole aptly called Paradise, before stopping in Cairns for a short week.
