Kakadu National Park
[Dateline 24 Aug - 25 Aug 2006]
A wonderful day was
spent in Australia's largest national park. Having almost been chased off the
road by wild horses we went on a river cruise, it was absolutely amazing and a
little bit overwhelming for the little Norwegian on board.... It felt like being
in the middle of a wildlife documentary! The diversity of birds was stunning. We
saw Magpie geese, egrits in all sizes, Azure kingfishers, sea eagles, Rufous
night herons, Whistling ducks, darters, jabirus, cormorants, Black legged
storks, ... and that's just what I remember of the top of my head! And of
course, crocodiles were lurking everywhere, so there is no swimming up here!

Just in case we decided we wanted to go for a swim!
A darter waiting for a fish to swim by?
Mr croc cooling himself off after a hunt?
Mrs Croc going for a swim!
A sea eagle checking out the dinner options
A little later, this photo kind of has an African feel to it doesn't it?
On our way out of Kakadu, the termite mounds are still with us!
We joined a boat trip in the afternoon, 2 hours of what Hege later described as like being in a David Attenborough documentary.....
These signs are by every little creek and river up here, not just in Kakadu. Be under no illusion, it is the truth, crocs are everywhere!
Check out his feet, doesn't look like he belongs in a tree does it?
Sitting in a little boat, with the birds and their noises all you heard, it was pretty magic!
