Kakadu to Derby [Dateline 25 Aug -  28 Aug 2006]

Leaving Kakadu we had pretty much nothing but 3-4 days of driving in front of us...  most of the natural attractions between here and the west coast require a four wheel drive...  we have decided to leave that for next time!  So we stocked up with food, diesel and port wine and hit the road!  It was by no means a boring journey... this part of Australia is as equally stunning, with the landscape constantly changing and no shortage of interesting places and spaces to look at or stop to admire.  We ended up driving about 500-600kms per day and camping in road side rest areas - along with the hoards of grey nomads (and a few young ones...) crossing the land.

View over Lake Argyle, so big it is defined as an inland sea!

Man made, created by the Ord river Dam this lake has a surface area of 740 sq km, making it the largest man-made body of water in Australia. Sydney Harbour looks like a pond in comparison! (and it has a Fresh water croc pop. of approx. 30 000!)
