Welcoming Morten with a BBQ... what else!
In Cairns - Prawns and beer in the shade after a day in the sun
A lookout just north of Cairns, on to just one of the beaches...
Morten fitted right in....
Arriving in Cooktown, the James Cook memorial
A very cool pub in El Arish, just outside Mission Beach
The mangroves of the Tully river, where we went croc spotting!
Our first crocodile.... he was approx 4 mtrs long and came almost up to the side of the boat!
Chris and Hege are excited.....
Chris is the chief spotter, Morten is helping....
Chris and Hege paddling, Hege won the race?
Bushbuddies camping at Big Crystal Creek
Morten bonding with the brush turkeys at Big Crystal Creek
Just a goanna wandering by...
Very windy Ellis Beach, north of Townsville, tropical even with 'broken' weather!
On arrival at Magnetic Island (Maggie) with the ferry, where the welcoming committee consisted of a rock wallaby!
There were lots of wallabies, and they liked cake...
We hired a moke for a day, good fun!
The tropics have lots of these curtain fig trees, here our mature friend Morten is having a climb in one...
Horseshoe Bay, north on Magnetic Island, a beautiful bay where we spent a few days in the sun!
Chris doing the catering...
A quiet morning chat with the rainbow lorikeets passing by our flat on Magnetic Island!
Fun and games on the beach in Townsville
Trying to fit all the shopping into only two bags....
(Chris had just woken up after having had a massage... hence the slightly silly expression...) - Chris here... cant explain Hege's expression......
Chris' t-shirt says "I am not an alcoholic... Alcoholics go to meetings" thanks Morten for the t-shirt
Stopping for the night on our way to Cooktown... stopped on the side of the road at a dry creek bed - this beats working
The river mouth in Finch bay in Cooktown, we actually saw a half eaten fish, and rather quickly made our return to Bruce...
Having left Cooktown we set course for Mission beach, hoping for some sun. Do you see the rain?
A beautiful 4 hr boatride, in a small boat with 10 other 'spotters'.
And the boat suddenly felt even smaller than it was! Quite seriously, you would not last 5 minsutes if you chose to go swimming here.
Excited? That look is FEAR.... we very quickly retreated well into the boat...
For some reason I was the first (and only) person to volunteer to take the role of "spotter"... which involved standing at the front of the boat with a bright light... thus enabling the crocodiles to clearly see the target!!!
Floating by... like hell.... looking for an easy feed is more like it....
Having left Mission Beach and crocodiles behind we stopped at Big Crystal Creek waterhole. Morten relaxed... this is the same waterhole at which we spent Chris' birthday... definately worth a second visit.
Hege won the race as Chris was busy enjoying a beer - and really didn't know that we had a competition!
Yes, it got cold at nighttime!
We named him Frederick, he was first chased out of the tree he was resting in by a bunch of kookaburras, then he scared the life out of Morten who was taking a 'nature break', before he decided to climb another tree to relax some more. He was about 1,5 mtrs long, and this was only a few hours after our encounter with a 4mtr long snake!
Can u see the little fella?
Had to seek shade for lunch, as the weather had finally fixed itself....
Mortens last day, the packing actually went very well, and he flew down to Sydney for a couple of days of big city before returning to Oslo.
