Visiting Uncle Mike in Brisbane [Dateline 18 May - 20 May 2006]

Having recovered from 17 May celebrations we made the short drive into Brisbane.  Chris enjoyed only being behind the wheel for 2 hours!  We arrived at Uncle Mike's place to be warmly welcomed with a cold beer and good company - not to mention 2 nights in a real bed in a real bedroom where Hege did not bump her head!  (Our "bedroom" in Bruce does not have much headroom).  The 2 days were spent sightseeing some of Brisbane (great city of about 2 million people situated 18km inland from the ocean on the river), enjoying good food, wine and beer and also getting some hot travel tips from Mike and Maria who have spent considerable time in Queensland and also in the Northern Territory.

Hege was especially interested to hear Mike's story of windsurfing near Darwin and having a close encounter with a salt water crocodile!  We now have some good tips for the next legs of our journey - and also where not to go into the water!!  Chris also got some good advice on fishing, and hopes to have better luck with the Barramundi once we get a little further north.

Our bike ride ended in tears....

Chris' pedal stripped the thread - and curtailed what was to be a very nice ride through the bike trails of Mt Coot-tah. Maybe next time...
